BENZODIAZEPINE SURVEY

From February through March of 2013, Dr. Catherine Pittman, Associate Professor of Psychology at Saint Mary’s College, surveyed members of the benzodiazepine support forum, Benzobuddies.org, about their use of benzodiazepines and experience of withdrawal. Four-hundred-and-ninety-three participants from all over the world provided information on their symptoms and experiences. The results of the survey were presented to professionals (physicians, therapists) who specialize in treating anxiety disorders. The findings were also presented at a national conference on anxiety in California for the purpose of making health care providers more responsive to the needs and concerns of iatrogenically dependent benzodiazepine patients.

The survey was titled “Social Networking and Benzodiazepine Withdrawal: The Realities of Dependence and the Necessity of Support”
