Photos and wider participation for 2020 were limited (see W-BAD Relaunch Notice for details). While confronted with life difficulties, W-BAD founder Wayne Douglas continued with the campaign in an effort to uphold the W-BAD ethos and keep the flame alive.

Benzodiazepine Evidence Hearing

Japan House of Representatives – Tokyo, November 7, 2019

On November 7, 2019, in an exact mirroring of numbers from July 11, a Benzodiazepine Evidence Hearing was held at the Japan House of Representatives, First members Building, Conference Room 1.

Speakers included W-BAD Founder Wayne Douglas, Tokyo Metropolitan Legislator Ms. Reiko Ueda, and Leading Japan Ophthalmologist Dr. Masato Wakakura.

The hearing was organized by Yuriko Tada from The Association for Psychiatric Drug Damages Japan. In attendance were several other speakers, supporters, victims and politicians.

Post Hearing Press Conference

Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare – Tokyo, November 7, 2019

Following the Benzodiazepine Evidence Hearing on November 7, 2019 above, a press conference was held at the Press Conference Hall in the Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare Building, Tokyo.

In attendance was W-BAD Founder Wayne Douglas, Tokyo Metropolitan Legislator Ms. Reiko Ueda, Leading Japan Ophthalmologist Dr. Masato Wakakura and Organizer Yuriko Tada together with members of the press.

Benzodiazepine Public Appeal

Garden Clock Square – Matsumoto, November 24, 2019

On November 24, 2019 W-BAD Founder Wayne Douglas took to the streets in Matsumoto, Japan to make a public appeal, posing questions about the benzodiazepine problem to political party leader Yamamoto Taro during a political party launch. He followed up by handing out hundreds of W-BAD pamphlets to onlookers and supporters. Wayne says the reaction from the crowd was positive with this initiative creating a flow on effect as the political rally continued to move around the country.

W-BAD Parliamentary Info Drop

Government Buildings: House of Representatives and Upper House of Councillors – Tokyo, December 6, 2019

On December 6, 2019 W-BAD Founder Wayne Douglas, together with supporting volunteers and politicians, initiated a W-BAD Info Drop at the Government Buildings: House of Representatives and Upper House of Councillors in Tokyo, distributing information on benzodiazepines and W-BAD pamphlets to all 713 national politicians, including the Prime Minister’s Office at the House of Representatives and meeting with well known politician, Yoshimi Watanabe. Wayne borrowed $1,000 from a friend to make this happen (while confronted with life difficulties).
